A child
Peers into the world
With clear eyes
And no sadness
Nor strife to bear
Of life’s burdens
To endure in fortitude.
He will wonder
At his first butterfly
And the loss
When it flies away free
He will wonder
At his first delicate kiss
And the loss
When she flies away free
And the wonder will fade
With his first scar
And the loss
When the wonder is gone
And the butterflies fly away.
